City life.

From a distance, it all looks so quiet and unassuming.
I don't think I remember another weekend in KC where I could not wait to get the hell out of downtown. The reasons were myriad, but for those of you that weren't here in KC this weekend, it was a combination of things that attacked my introverted sensibilities to the point of wanting to get away from local society after I got a break on Sunday and from a long weird extended work week.
I bet it's nice and quiet in there.
In an incredible chance of migratory fandoms converging on downtown, Planet Comicon, the Final Four basketball thing, special events at Union Station, horrible construction zones, and early drunk celebrations of St. Patrick's day, made for what I am sure a chaotic and bizarre mix of a weekend for many people ranging from Iowa, to Kansas, to a slew of other states. Hotels must have been packed, and the parking even worse than it normally is on a Saturday night downtown in KC.

I did end up spending time with my family and went to everywhere but downtown. LegoLand, the WW1 memorial, and some specialty stores were all on the run I made to get some new things to review for my blogs, finish some art projects, and stuff like that.
Simon and Garfunkel. Probably the best driving music to lose yourself in thoughts to, especially late at night.
Work has been keeping me pretty busy on all fronts, and I know a fair number of people asked if I was going to make it to Planet Comicon this year. I was not able to at the last minute for a slew of reasons. Believe me, I wasn't happy about it, but such is life. I was especially upset because I am one of the biggest fans of Carey Elwes, but I am sure that I'll get a chance to meet him at some point.

I do have some shows coming up in a few months that I will be part of, but a variety of things have keep my creative zones curbed and that simply won't do. So early on Sunday, I wanted to get away for just a bit. A rough path and woodsy area where perhaps I could catch a cloud or two seemed to be the order of the morning.
Is there anything more welcoming than an unknown path when daily ruts wear you thin?
This last Thursday, I had an unexpected and very nice surprise that tells me that life has turns and paths so hidden that if not for a random thought, I think I and friend of mine, would not have discovered a very odd coincidence that happened some years ago to me.

I am a believer that people do not cross our paths in life without purpose of some sort. Good or bad, they leave some trace that affects each of us.

It made me think of old photos, of days past, of recent losses near to me, and of reunited moments with lifelong friends. Time is such a fickle thing, slowing when we need it to be expedient, and quick as mercury when we want a moment, a message, a memory to last just a bit longer.
Clouds are the gossamer spirits of the sky, weaving imagery into our heads, lulling us into thoughts or sleep as we lay upon long grass or sit under a tree.
But forays into quiet times have to be held in check, and can only be so long, for life calls and we all need to get back to the motions of our days. Waking, working, talking, and experiencing life, and for many of us, it's a repetitive, yet comfortable task, filled with wishes and pining for more hours to do more in. There are those wonderful moments, whether it's times with loved ones and friends, or perhaps seeing good in this world, or creating something that has deep meaning or greater purpose. Those. Those are the moments I think so many of us yearn for. Strive for.

We want our efforts to mean something, and most of us, I believe, want to make a difference in this world if for no other reason than to say we were here and look what I did to make things just a bit better.

Some of this came about as I recounted another long past memory, with not so joyous coincidence laced with it. I finally decided to have a separate blog and site for my Voice Over efforts. But since I am waiting for a good portion of my audio samples to be released/given the okay, I focused on a bit of history on why and how I got into the market of Voice Over.
Chapter 2 is probably the hardest entry to any blog I've ever written. If only because I was not comfortable laying that much of myself out for others to read about.
If you'd like to check out my Voice Over blog, just click here to see it. It's just starting out, and not unlike my other blogs for Rogue Hobbyist and my spots on Tenacious Toys, I'll bring the same humor, wit, storytelling, and life experience for you all to read. Life isn't always awesome. But it is almost infinitely worth exploring every way you can in the best ways possible. I have found that when we face our problems head on, we leave that fight with scars, with sorrows, and often more wary, but richer and wiser for the effort.

Until next time, I hope you all had a safe and fun weekend whether you were cheering for athletes, buying comics, or just spending time with family or a good book quietly at home. Always be kind to your fellow beings, and support your local artists.
